Accredited Bioethanol Testing Unit
The Zuckerforschung Tulln GmbH (ZFT) has expanded its testing laboratory for field trial studies and analytics by one important function. Newly added on in the area of analytics, besides the established sugar beet analyses, is the ethanol analytics towards the determination of parameters relevant to quality with bioethanol. [more]

Bioethanol wheat
Bioethanol wheat – alcohol yield – correct choice of variety
The department Microbiology & Biotechnology of ZFT has developed a laboratory method for the selection of varieties. Our standardised method makes it possible to objectively compare all varieties, which are intended to be used as wheat for bioethanol production. [more]

Natural Antibacterials applied in the field of silage production
After more than 15 years of successful application in the sugar factories of AGRANA to combat infections in the extraction area, natural antibacterials are now being tested in the field of silage production…[more]

Mycotoxin Analytics
Due to the increasing interest of its customers, Zuckerforschung Tulln established a laboratory for mycotoxin analytics. Wheat, maize, and products thereof are routinely analysed for deoxynivalenol, zearalenon, ochratoxin A, and fumonisin B1 & B2 using HPLC. [more]

New! OPAL with online determination of alkalinity
Application of Starch in Shotcrete
Development of New Organic Starches
The original system for optimising the alkalinisation in the juice purification – OPAL – developed by the Department of Sugar Technology has recently been extended by a system for an automated determination of alkalinity. Up till now this parameter was determined directly in the factory laboratory. With the modified system, both parameters necessary for the calculation of the effective alkalinity (calcium content and alkalinity) are recorded approximately six times per hour. The implementation of the fully automated system led to further levelling of the production process. It was successfully applied in campaign 2008/09 in Tulln factory for the first time. [more]
Modified starches were developed for the reduction of the rebound in shotcrete application. The rebound can be reduced by up to 50% with the lowest dosages of this specially modified starch. Within this developing process, the influence of raw materials was investigated. In addition, several new reagents for derivatisation and an ideal solution for this special application were found. Now there are tailor-made products for the application in dry shotcrete as well as for wet shotcrete, which were successfully tested at some tunnel construction places by an industrial partner. The „Zuckerforschung Tulln” reflects the growing demand for organic foods and is working intensively to develop new, innovative products with organic starches.  These starches are used to produce high-quality organic food, completely free of chemicals, residues from agriculture and genetically modified organisms.

The “Zuckerforschung Tulln” offers because of its facilities and its experienced staff the best opportunities to examine new production technologies and to test new products. [more]
