Technological quality of sugar beets

Through its pilot-scale implementation, Zuckerforschung Tulln have increased their expertise in providing specialty products for many customers, therefore meeting customer demand. Through the gentle quality-friendly spray drying process a wide variety of of both food and non-food systems can be prepared in powder form. Some examples of products produced at Zuckerforschung Tulln include instant cacao, instant mocha, sugar thick juice, maltodextrins, salad dressings, fertilizer and feed. [more]

Due to the increasing interest of its customers, Zuckerforschung Tulln established a laboratory for mycotoxin analytics. Wheat, maize, and products thereof are routinely analysed for deoxynivalenol, zearalenon, ochratoxin A, and fumonisin B1 & B2 and the aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, G2 & M1 using HPLC and the recently installed LC-MS system. To control the quality of these analyses, Zuckerforschung Tulln successfully participates in international ring analyses. Specific solutions are essential fields of duty for our well-trained personnel. [more]

A current comparison of various predictive formulas for the technological beet quality demonstrates strong potential for a so-called “New Refractometer Formula”, which is based on simply measurable quality parameters, to be utilized for the quality evaluation of sugar beet. In contrast to established beet quality formulas, the refractometer formula, which was originally developed in the 1990ies, also responds to the properties of stored beet material. [more]
